The motivation for this course is the results seen with its application. Anatarang Holistic Wellness LLP is the only centre presently offering this combination and its popularity is spreading through word of mouth. In many cases the results appear magical. Some have experienced healing within two to three sessions, after exploring cure through regular medical systems for close to 8 years without success. It is interesting to see even doctors reaching out for solutions having experienced no relief from physiotherapy. It is clearly seen that the combination has a wonderful role to play in healing people including aiding medical cure in some cases like cancer, where Somatic Vedic Yoga may not bring about total cure on its own. Knowledgable doctors have started recommending that their patient explore somatic healing therapy for special issues like anxiety etc.
A powerful system like this needs to spread in a country like India, with practitioners available in every nook and corner so that people can reach out for guidance and help within their neighbourhood. Once a community of practitioners graduate and start practicing, it is proposed to create a suitable organisation for professionals. It will be a professional body representing the growth and development of practitioners including mandating continuous professional education for the practitioners.
The underlying principle in somstic vedic yoga, is conscious control of the neuromuscular system. Muscles tend to be hypercontracted due to the principle of sensory motor amnesia [SMA] . Hypercontracted muscles due to SMA cannot be restored to zero or near zero resting tonus through conventional medical systems or physiotherapy. Somatic vedic yoga practices are designed to help the upper cortex take control of the muscles thereby breaking the hold of SMA over the muscles.
The course is designed in a way that casts responsibility on the student to be well read and present their understanding of the subject. Apart from lectures, students will read all prescribed reading material and complete required assignments in each semester. During the lectures students will be expected to lead sessions for other students in the practice, to prepare them for the application post certification. They will also conduct real sessions for outsiders between semesters and also present 3 case studies that they need to handle between semesters.
The course requires a good grounding on muscular anatomy, a working knowledge on Neuro physiology, an expert knowledge in Hanna Somatics and Hatha Yoga and mantra yoga and their use in therapy to heal suitable ailments. In addition, it is important to be well up on the consequences of trauma on the human body and connect the same to both somatics and yoga. The course is designed to help the participant assimilate the required knowledge and develop the confidence in using it professionally.
Faculty are chosen for their knowledge on the respective subject and expertise over the years. If necessary additional guest lectures will be introduced to reinforce a concept or a practice. See section on faculty below
Learning is a continuous process and students would do well to access other books beyond the prescribed books to sharpen their own understanding of the various topics. Post qualification students may be in a position to integrate other systems that they have gained expertise in, with the practices under this course.
Only students who come prepared for the session with pre reading of the topic to be covered would be able to derive maximum advantage from the course and also emerge successfully in the exams. Each session will start with a quiz on the topics to be covered in that lecture and will end with a quiz as well.
This is not a typical Indian rote learning course where you memorise the contents of a handout and vomit it out in the exam to score 90+ marks in each subject. You are expected to put in efforts on your own, read more and be able to demonstrate your understanding of the subject and not your ability to memoris
