YOGA THERAPY IS DIFFERENT FROM CLASSICAL YOGASANAS

The traditional yogasanas were conceived many years back for healthy & physically active individuals to maintain good health. But today, we lead a sedentary lifestyle and look upon yoga when in pain, suffering or disease. The traditional asanas could actually harm individuals with damaged cartilage and joints.

Asanas have to be adapted and customized; this understanding is Yoga Therapy. It is an effective modality for managing musculoskeletal problems like knee, back, neck and shoulder pain.

 

FLEXIBILITY BASED ON STRENGTH IS YOGA THERAPY

Flexibility based practices could be de-stabilising for the joints as weakness of muscles could be the reason for false flexibility. Strength based flexibility, which involves core muscle activation along with right breathing, is the need of the time. Combining fundamentals of pilates with yogasanas proves to be more beneficial for those in pain.
